Customized Alpine Climbing Course
On customized alpine climbing course we can adjust the course length and content to meet guests’ needs. The goal is to teach the necessary techniques so that the guests can embark on their own easy alpine climbing adventures independently and participate in more challenging alpine climbing trips with a mountain guide.
What to expect?
This is an exemplary plan. There are several options, naturally, as there are plenty of mountains and places to explore, and as always, the plan can of course change according to mountain conditions and weather.
Day 1: Travel by car to Sustenbrüggli. Approach to Sustlihütte. Training near the hut: behavior at the hut, necessary knots, alpine coil, climbing in mountain boots, climbing shoes, and crampons. Abseiling, lowering, and improvised descent, rope measurements for 2–6-person rope teams, and on rock and glacier. Route selection and planning, difficulty levels, navigation, risk analysis, equipment, and the use and application of learned techniques.
Day 2: Climbing day on the nearby Kanzelgrat ridge. Rope handling and maximizing safety on the rock ridge. Utilizing rock features such as small rock spikes as intermediate protection or anchors. Going through the four-level rope team movement scale: short roping, running belay, parking, and pitching. Applying learned techniques.
Day 3: Transfer from Sustlihütte to Tierberglihütte. Glacier training on Steigletscher glacier; rope measurements, glacier travel, snow anchors, crevasse rescue, proper use of crampons and ice axe, self-arrest or partner arrest in case of a slip, navigation, and route selection.
Day 4: Major climbing day on Gwächtenhorn and Sustenhorn. Independent use and application of learned techniques and skills on both rock ridges and glaciers. Short rope on firn and traverse, crossing the Bergschrund/rimaye, "jump rope" on a ridge. Return to the car.
